Arellano Leads Hendrickson Soccer Into 2019 Postseason

Pflugerville Hendrickson senior Rodrigo Arellano is wrapping up a successful high school soccer career. The soon-to-be 2019 grad was first-team all-state as a sophomore and first-team all-region as a junior.

"I give credit to my parents because they’re the ones who, at a very young age, supported my love for soccer," said Arellano. "They made sacrifices for me to be able to play on a club team. But, without many of my past and current coaches, I wouldn’t be the player I am today."

Hendrickson soccer coach Jacob Stern, of course, speaks highly of Arellano.

"He is a great kid," said Stern. "Best first touch I have ever seen at any level, and can determine the outcome of every game."

Arellano, who has played midfielder and forward in his career, was thankful for the kind words and support.

"Hearing your coach say that you have the best touch he has ever seen is truly something to be proud of," said Arellano. "Especially because him, as a coach, has coached all kinds of players and a lot of them too."

Arellano and Hendrickson have not skipped a step so far in 2019. They can continue that trend in Friday's 13-6A district finale at McNeil, as well as the UIL 6A playoffs.

"This year has been flying by," said Arellano. "So far, we’ve had a lot of success during district. With one game to go, we still have the chance to win district and finish as the number one seed for playoffs. Then, [a] goal that, as a team we are still working for, is to leave a long lasting legacy here at Hendrickson."

Regardless of what happens over the next month, Arellano wants to continue his playing career in college and beyond.

"I will continue to play soccer at the college level," said Arellano. "I’m still undecided where I will attend, but I want to study business. After college, I will try to go professional."
