4 for 4: Top DFW Hoops Games for February 5

Little Elm takes on Northwest tonight in a Top 10 matchup

We draw closer and closer to the end of the regular season and playoff time in Texas with a bevy of big games sprinkled across the Metroplex on Tuesday night.

It’s the girls’ regular season finale with a number of playoff spots and slots still to be decided. Coin flips to determine some teams’ fates are definitely in play pending results of Tuesday’s action.

The boys have three games, which include Tuesday night, and that leaves plenty of time to make late-season chargers into the playoffs.

Here are the top four boys and top four girls games for Tuesday.

#6 Northwest (23-7) vs. #10 Little Elm (21-8): After a couple weeks of fending off second-tier challengers in 8-5A, the top two teams meet again with identical 8-1 district records. Little Elm used a big fourth quarter in the first meeting to steal the win and will look for a season sweep and sole possession of first place.

#8 Argyle (22-8) vs. #5 Decatur (29-3): The saying goes, “it’s hard to beat a team three times,” which is what Decatur will look to do in this matchup of state-ranked teams. Four total points has separated these two in the previous two contests. A win for Decatur would create a two-game lead in District 8-4A and at least a share of the district title with two to play.

Plano West (21-8) vs. #6 Allen (30-3): Plano West can throw a wrench into District 9-6A title plans for Allen if West can erase the 29-point loss it suffered last month to Allen and split the season series. A loss would drop Allen into a tie for second with West and probably a game behind Jesuit, which plays Plano East.

Flower Mound (18-10) vs. Irving MacArthur (16-13): With already having a win under its belt over MacArthur, Flower Mound, despite being on the outside looking in at 5-6 in 6-6A play, can swap places with MacArthur with another win and enter the playoff picture with two games remaining after this. MacArthur can create a two-game gap with two to play if it can win and split the season series.

#11 Frisco Liberty (25-10) vs. #5 Frisco Lone Star (24-7): An outright District 9-5A title or a share of a district title - that’s what is on the line as these two meet a month after an overtime thriller in which Lone Star eked out a two-point win on the road.

Lake Highlands (9-17) vs. Richardson Pearce (11-18): The fourth and final playoff spot for 8-6A is on the line in the regular season finale. Pearce won the first meeting on the road and will need the win to avoid a tie-breaker scenario with Lake Highlands.

Southlake Carroll (16-15) vs. Keller Timber Creek (20-9): At both 9-4 in 5-6A and with playoff spots earned, playoff position is squarely on the line in this matchup. Timber Creek won the first matchup on the road last month and will look to claim the third seed with a season sweep.

Dallas Carter (14-12) vs. Dallas Roosevelt (13-14): In 12-4A, both teams sit tied for third at 6-5 in district. For Roosevelt, it has already clinched a playoff berth, having swept the season series with North Dallas, which lurks a game behind in fifth place. If Carter loses and North Dallas wins, a coin flip would decide which team will go to the playoffs as they split the season series.
