5 Houston-Area Players to Watch for in BCS Semis

CeeDee Lamb of OU will be big-play WR for Sooner

The Bowl Championship Series will take center stage Saturday as the NCAA Final Four of football will get us one step close to a National Champion.

While no Texas teams are participating, there is some local talent who could play huge roles in punching their team’s ticket to the finals.

Here are five Houston-area stars to watch for.

No. 1 CeeDee Lamb, Oklahoma, WR, Foster

Game-breaking WR for the Sooners as a sophomore. A future pro who combines size, speed and great hands. Will be key in the OU’s offensive scheme. Had 10 TDs, over 1,000 yards and 57 catches as a sophomore. Can he get loose against Bama?

No. 2 Kenneth Murray, Oklahoma, LB, Elkins

Probably OU’s best defensive player. Had 140 tackles, 4 sacks and 12 tackles for loss. Was the co-Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year a year ago. Great size and athleticism at 6-foot-2. He can drop into coverage as well.

No. 3 Jaylen Waddle, Alabama, WR, Episcopal

To play as a true freshman at ‘Bama is tough. Waddle earned Freshman All-America honors and All-SEC Freshman honors. Super explosive receive who will be targeted in Saturday’s shootout with OU. Xavian Marks of George Ranch also gets some playing time on special teams, but likely won’t be in the WR rotation.

No. 4 Jalen Hurts, Alabama, QB, Channelview

Could play a huge role in their game against OU. He filled in nicely against Georgia in the SEC Championship game. Could split some time with Tua Saturday night. Has been a Freshman All-American, an SEC Offensive Player of the Year and has helped win a national championship

Jalen Hurts of Channelview

No. 5 Brock Wright, Notre Dame, TE, Cy-Fair

The 6-foot-5 TE has appeared in all 12 games this season and caught his first TD pass against Wake Forest. He also lines up at FB in short-yardage situations.
