Two games. That’s all that separates us - the teams, players, coaches, fans and media - from playoff basketball. And after those two games, the real, real fun begins with hundreds of teams vying for the ultimate prize; seasons basically start anew with the goal of just winning one and advancing to the next challenge.
But before we can look forward past those games, there is a lot of uncertainty of which teams will be seeded in their respective districts and who they might play and where those games might be.
Two games. That’s a lot of time to right a struggling ship or to validate supremacy. Here are the top 5 games for Friday night, highlighted by a Top 25 showdown in 5A and a number of games that can put to rest playoff seeding or force the regular season finales to be the ultimate decider.
#11 The Colony vs. #10 Little Elm: It’ll be interesting to see how Little Elm responds having lost heartbreaker earlier in the week to #6 Northwest. There’s still a lot of seeding to be determined in the 8-5A standings, and The Colony is in prime position to upend those standings even more if it can win and avenge an overtime home loss to Little Elm last month.
Mansfield Legacy (24-8) vs. Centennial (21-9): In a three-team race - all tied at 8-4 in 5-5A - a bit of clarity will be had after the dust settles between Legacy and Centennial. Crowley is the other team involved, so either two of the three will be tied for second place with a game to go or two will need the regular season finale to settle who gets third and fourth place. Legacy has already topped Centennial once this season, so another win will help tie-breaker scenarios, if needed.
Wylie (25-6) vs. Sachse (17-13): In 10-6A, the final two spots are unsettled but playoff berths are already clinched. Wylie and Sachse occupy the final two spots but a win for Wylie would solidify the standings. Sachse, though, could move to third, owning the tie-breaker, with a win and a season sweep of Wylie.
Keller (23-11) vs. Southlake Carroll (18-13): With two games left, including this one, third place in 5-6A is up for grabs between these two. Keller already owns a win at home over Southlake and will look to swap places in the district standings if it can win and claim the tie-breaker. Carroll would lock up third with a win Friday night.
Fort Worth Paschal (14-13) vs. Arlington (14-12): Arlington can lock up its playoff berth and the 4-6A fourth seed with a win over Paschal on Friday night. Arlington already defeated Paschal earlier in the year, but a win for Paschal would force a tie for the final playoff spot. If both teams finished tied at the end of the season, a coin flip would be needed to decide which team goes to the playoffs.
