Back-to-Back Comebacks Give Duncanville 4th State Title

Duncanville (32-7) saved its best for last at the 2019 UIL boys basketball state tournament. The Panthers erased 10 point deficits in Friday's semifinal against North Shore and Saturday's championship game against Klein Forest (33-4) to claim their fourth boys basketball state title and first since 2007.

"We're built for this," said Duncanville coach David Peavy. "We've been in so many close games against really good teams."

Duncanville needed its double-double performers to finish the season like it did. It started with Jahmius Ramsey's 16 points and 11 rebounds on Friday, and continued with Micah Peavy's 22 points and 13 rebounds on Saturday. Both were named VYPE Player of the Game after their respective performances.

"My plan was to get the win," Micah Peavy said on Saturday. "Do whatever it took to get my team to win."

Ramsey also came to play in Saturday's championship-clinching victory. He finished the season's final game with 19 points and nine rebounds.

Duncanville trailed after the first and second quarters, but took the lead with a 26-18 third. It only led by three going to the final period, so it had to close out the game. The Panthers did that by scoring the final seven points of the season. Damon Nicholas and Ramsey kicked off the run with layups, and Ramsey and Ja'Bryant Hill combined to score the final three from the free throw line.

Duncanville also overcame Klein Forest's spread out scoring attack. Daylan Hamilton scored 11 of his 17 points in the final quarter, Kharee McDaniel led the Golden Eagles with 18, Calvin Solomon contributed 14 and Corin Robinson added 13.
