With just a little over a month left in the regular season, and the playoffs starting a week earlier than the boys’ tournament, we’re hitting crunch time for contenders to make their final moves.
For 6A, the state rankings – in both TABC and MaxPreps – are top-heavy with DFW teams, so there is a big possibility of a Metroplex team coming away with the state title – Plano – after having two representatives in the state bracket last year.
Cedar Hill: Cedar Hill (24-4) is sitting atop both MaxPreps and TABC 6A state rankings after rattling off 11 straight wins, which winning the 68th Sandra Meadows Classic championship.
Allen: At 21-5, Allen appears ready to make another run at state after a 29-9 finish last season and getting bounced in the regional quarterfinals against state-power Duncanville.
Duncanville: The state power fell short of making it to the state tournament last year, but at 22-5 and ranked No. 5 in MaxPreps and No. 7 in TABC, Duncanville looks as strong as ever to make another run.
Sachse: Having won at least 25 games since 2014-15, Sachse (21-4), which leads district 10-6A and is ranked No. 6 by TABC, is ready to show last year’s run was no fluke.
Other contenders: DeSoto (15-5), Prosper (20-6), Hurst LD Bell (24-3) and Plano (20-3).
