With 5:48 left in the third quarter of Friday's UIL 6A state semifinal, Klein Forest (33-3) trailed Cibolo Steele (30-9) 47-34. But, the Golden Eagles never quit, and stormed back for a 69-60 win at San Antonio's Alamodome.
Klein Forest's 26-3 run shocked the Steele-dominant crowd, and resulted in a 60-50 Golden Eagles' lead with 4:12 left in the game.
"I expected it," Klein Forest coach Cary Black said of his team's comeback. "I really did because I knew they wouldn't go down easy."
VYPE Player of the Game Calvin Solomon, who finished with 24 points and seven rebounds, was ultimately the difference. He had a near-perfect shooting night, with his seven-of-eight attempts from the field and 10-of-12 attempts from the line being successful.
"We played hard," said Solomon. "That's a good team we played."
Klein Forest also got much-needed efforts from Kharee McDaniel and Corin Robinson, who finished with 21 and 11 points respectively.
The Golden Eagles advance to play Duncanville in Saturday's title game, which is scheduled to tip at 8:30 p.m.
"It's a championship game," said Black. "Our guys will be fired up [and] their guys will be fired up. They're really, really good [and] I feel like we're really good too, so I think it will be fun."
Steele, who was outscored 39-20 in the second half, was led by Langston Love's 23 points and 11 rebounds, as well as Kwabena Davis' 13 points.
