HOUSTON - As long as he has remembered Jovan Prado has loved soccer.
"I was introduced to it by my father and ever since it’s been my favorite thing to do," Prado said. "I think of it as a hobby. A therapy. A way of life."
That love has resulted in a standout career at Katy Tompkins, which has earned him a scholarship to play soccer at the next level at Memphis.
Heading into the 2019 season, Prado earned a spot as a candidate for the VYPE Houston Preseason Boys Soccer Player of the Year and in the end won.
Of the 174,038 votes casted, Prado brought home 50,312 (28.91 percent) to win the poll.
"It is an honor to be voted Preseason Player of the Year," Prado said. "It means a lot to me and my family to have people think that I am the person that deserve this award. I’ll continue to work hard and do anything I can to be the regular season Player of the Year as well."
When it comes to playing soccer, what is Prado's favorite part?
"I love how the sport frees me from all my problems," Prado said. "I love the competition but most of all I love it because it lets me express myself in a way nothing else can."
