Sometime during the magazine prep period, I completed my first year covering sports in Southeast Texas. I’ve done a lot during that time, and every assignment meant a lot to me. They pushed me to be a better journalist, and allowed me to get to know the people I was writing for (athletes, coaches, parents, school admins, alumni, fans, etc).
They also taught me to cherish every moment. If you’re a high school senior, I hope you’re doing that right now because this will all be over before you know it. The memories you’ve shared with classmates will last a lifetime, and I want you to look back on some good times.
Whether you’ve enjoyed your experience so far or not, you still have time to go out on a good note. For the students in extracurriculars, I want to see your best at every practice and event. This could be your final opportunity in the sport or club you love, and you don’t want to leave anything on the table.
If your after-school activity is over, I hope you don’t have any regrets. Now, turn your attention to your GPA, so you can achieve your post-graduate dreams. If you make the most of your final days, you will thank yourself later. You might even make a new friend along the way.
A big thanks goes to Lumberton City Park for hosting the 2017 VYPE Baseball and Softball Shoot. We also appreciate the coaches and athletic directors, who got their players there. We had a record number for this event, and it couldn’t have happened without y’all.
Hope to see you at the ballpark this season,
VYPE SETX editor
