Stubblefield Shining in Foster's Playoff Run

Ryan Stubblefield’s first year on varsity has been an “unreal experience”.

The last time Stubblefield saw Foster reach a state semifinal game, which came in 2016, he was roaming the sidelines as a ball boy. Now he could guide them back there as the starting quarterback.

“It’s been a tradition at Foster that we make it to the fourth round of the playoffs,” Stubblefield said. “We have a great coaching staff, so I expect us to go all the way and win a ring.”

To get to the state semifinals, Stubblefield and company will have to take down the undefeated Shadow Creek Sharks this Saturday at TDECU Stadium. It is a rematch of the regular season District 10-5A-DI meeting between the two programs. Shadow Creek came back from a 31-3 deficit to win it 35-34.

“This game is a real big one for us,” Stubblefield said. “We lost a big game in a shocking way to these guys. This time I feel we have that hunger to beat these guys. We have to just focus on finishing and executing every single play. This will be another great showcase to show the State of Texas we can play with anybody in the state.”

Stubblefield has shown a lot of prowess at the quarterback position this season already.

The 2020 prospect has passed for 2,604 yards, 32 touchdowns and five interceptions for the Falcons to help guide them to a 9-4 record so far. Heading into the playoffs, Foster was sitting at 6-4 and the third seed out of District 10-5A-DI.

Once in the playoffs, Foster has defeated Port Arthur Memorial (20-19), Manor (42-28) and Hutto (41-31) to advance to the regional finals.

“It’s been just a joy to see my team succeed,” Stubblefield said. “We have put in a lot of work this offseason and summer to show all our doubters why we are where we are this season. We have a great coaching staff that puts in a lot of time and effort making sure we have the right tools to succeed at a high level. “And again it’s just been a joy to have fun and do what I love with my brothers.”
