The 6A girls got their quick breakdown and now it’s time for the 5A girls to get their shine.
Unlike the 6A state rankings, though, the 5A table isn’t nearly as top-heavy but that doesn’t mean contenders aren’t there.
Mansfield Timberview: The unanimous No. 1-ranked 5A team (TABC and MaxPreps), Mansfield Timberview (25-1), is following up last year’s 39-2 record and state runner-up with another great season and is the clear-cut favorite to win its district.
Royse City: As a definite team on the rise, Royse City (23-2) has won eight straight after suffering its only two losses on the season and looking to make an impact in its first potential playoff appearance since the 2015-16 season.
Fort Worth Boswell: After getting bounced in the regional semis last year, Boswell (22-4) is back again and will be battle tested come playoff time if it can come out of deep District 7-5A.
Mansfield Legacy: It seems that every year produces two Mansfield-area contenders and this year’s version includes Legacy (19-5) after a dip in wins last year after back-to-back 23-plus-win seasons in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
Other contenders: The Colony, Liberty, Frisco Lone Star and Red Oak
