Mr. Do-It-All: Achane Has Nose for the Endzone

Devon Achane collapsed to the ground a few times grabbing onto his calf muscles.

The junior was cramping. He had been all over the field, playing in a high-stressed playoff game for a couple of hours on both sides of the ball.

Achane was giving all he had, just like he’s done all season for Fort Bend Marshall.

In the Buffs’ dramatic 47-43 victory against Huntsville on Thursday, Achane did something many players will never do in a career – record a rushing, receiving and passing touchdown in a single game.

“My team needed me,” Achane said. “They run plays for me to make plays. That’s what I did. I just let the game come to me. I just be my own and let the game come.”

The junior had 15 carries for 112 yards and a score, three receptions for 95 yards and a score and one pass for 47 yards and a touchdown. Achane also had three kick returns for 92 yards.

“He’s just a special kid,” Fort Bend Marshall coach James Williams said. “He’s determined, he’s blessed, he’s very gifted and he does it all for the team. He did everything. That’s why he’s cramping up so much.

“Played offense, defense and special teams. He did it all.”

Doing this for the Buffs isn’t new to Achane.

His performance marked the fifth time this season Achane has recorded a receiving and rushing score in the same game. Achane accounted for five total touchdowns at the night’s end, marking the third game this year that he has accounted for five or more scores in a single night.

“He’s a great kid,” Fort Bend Marshall quarterback Malik Hornsby said. “That’s what he does. It’s nothing special we practice this. It’s a routine.”

The junior previously had seven touchdowns against Manvel on September 21 and six against A&M Consolidated on November 23 as season highs for touchdowns scored in a game.

Achane has scored 15 touchdowns (nine rushing, three receiving, one passing and two punt returns for touchdowns) in four playoff games.
