The Southwest Preparatory Conference 2019 Winter Championships kick off in the Dallas-Fort Worth-area today as the basketball and soccer brackets begin play. The wrestling and swimming meets begin Saturday.
Last season, the Houston-area swept the Winter Championships.
In boys’ basketball, defending SPC champ Houston Christian gets a bye to the quarterfinals along with St. Mark’s, Episcopal and Oakridge. Episcopal is peaking at the right time, while Houston Christian’s Sahvir Wheeler (Texas A&M) is back leading the Mustangs after recovering from a knee injury.
On the girls’ side, defending state champs Kinkaid along with Greenhill, FWCD and Houston Christian receive byes until tomorrow’s action.
Episcopal boys and Kinkaid girls won their respective soccer titles in 2018, and have hopes of bringing home more gold over the weekend.
Talk about dominance… St. John’s wrestling Alan Paul has created a dynasty inside the Mavs’ locker room. They will be tough to pin-down this Saturday as they go for another state title.
Who will make the biggest splash in the pool this weekend? St. John’s boys won the swimming and diving title last year, while Kinkaid and St. John’s girls were co-champs.
