The Dodd City Lady Hornets jumped out to a 14-3 first-quarter lead over Moulton and never looked back en route to a convincing 52-33 win over the Bobkatz in the first of the 18 games slated for The Alamodome.
The Lady Hornets, who led 29-9 at the half, shot nearly 50-percent from beyond the three-point arc and 5o-percent from the field overall to keep the Bobkatz at bay.
Journie Hilliard led all scorers with 22 points and added 11 rebounds while teammate Dani Baccus tallied 15 points. Erin Blaschke led coach John Meisetschleager’s Moulton squad with 17 points. Moulton finished the season with a final mark of 27-11.
Coach Alex Stephenson’s Dodd City (34-3) team will face Nazareth in the 1A State Championship game Saturday morning. Nazareth rode their usual stifling defense to a 12-1 first-quarter and 26-5 halftime lead on their way to a 48-17 semifinal win over Hermleigh.
Cambrie Heiman (13 points) and Blakely Gerber (11 points) led a balanced scoring attack for the Swiftettes while April Schmuker swept the boards for nine rebounds. Nazareth, under Head Coach Eric Schilling, will take a 31-6 record into the championship game in this their 6th-straight state appearance.
Makia Gonzales had 13 points to pace Coach Duane Hopper’s Cardinals, who closed out their second consecutive trip to state with a 30-6 mark.
