Lamar volleyball adds three for 2019

*(Lamar Athletics) BEAUMONT, Texas - *Fresh off of the removal of her interim tag, head coach Michelle Kuester proudly announced her 2019 Lamar University volleyball signing class, as announced by Cardinal Athletics on Monday. Three freshmen will join Big Red for next season's campaign.

"Our entire incoming class will have the chance to compete for playing time immediately," said Kuester. "Our recruiting mindset has been to find competitive kids who will never go down without a fight. The look of our program is going to change drastically and rapidly with our returners and newcomers."

All three additions to the volleyball program come from the Lone Star state with one coming to the Golden Triangle from the Austin area, another from the Dallas area, and the third a local hidden gem.

Kaitlyn Gil - OH - Port Neches, Texas / Port Neches-Groves HSHigh School: Led PNG to an undefeated District 22-5A season in 2017 and back-to-back District 22-5A championships in 2016 and 2017 ... Named the Super Gold Girls' Volleyball Player of the Year in 2017 ... All-District 22-5A in 2017 ... All-State 2017 ... Led her team to a 23-7 overall record and a 7-2 mark in district play in 2018 ... Gil played club ball for Hardin County Juniors

What Coach Kuester is Saying: "Kaitlyn Gil is a local hidden gem. She is a great athlete and a solid all-around player. She has a large shot selection, power when she needs it, and can play six rotations."

Malaysia Murdock - MB - Mansfield, Texas / Mansfield Legacy HSHigh School: Named to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Players to Watch list in 2018 ... All-District 10-5A in 2015 and 2016 ... Led her team to a 27-18 overall record and an 11-3 mark in district play ... Played club ball for 360 Volleyball

What Coach Kuester is Saying: "Malaysia Murdock is the definition of explosive. She is a powerful athlete, a shut down blocker, and a dynamic attacker. You can expect to see her on the floor early on in her career."

Trinity Sanders - OH - Pflugerville, Texas / Hendrickson HSHigh School: Sanders has 468 kills in 196 career sets, an average of 2.39 kills a set with a .221 hitting percentage ... She has 71 career total blocks, 247 career digs, and 24 career service aces ... In 2018 she played in 97 sets with 278 kills (2.9 kills per set), 16 aces, 34 total blocks, and 157 digs ... What Coach Kuester is Saying: "Trinity Sanders is a long, lean outside hitter who has also played in the middle. She is high flying and is a presence at the net. With some development I can see her being an all-conference selection. "
